The Club has registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, ready for the GDPR deadline on 25th May. It is imperative that Club holds relevant and up to date information for all members. Our annual Membership Renewal is due on 1st September (as per NISA guidelines), however should there be a change to any member's details throughout the season, it is vital that you contact email@example.com to update the Club's records. Some examples of this (but not exclusive to) are: -
- change of address
- change of phone number
- change of emergency contact details
- update of any allergies / medication
Those were just examples, but basically, anything that's on the Membership Form, that changes in the year, please notify us in order that we can keep our records up to date and relevant.
The records of any member who leaves Club is destroyed immediately.
The records of members who do not renew their Membership will be destroyed on 30th September each year. Please remember, it is the member's responsibility to renew their membership and ensure that the details provided are up to date.
Club may only hold "relevant and current" information on it's membership.
Please take note of all competition dates regardless of if you have entered, as there will not be a regular club night on those days - generally there will be a group coaching session before the competition for all skaters who haven't entered and a free skate after the competition has concluded if time permits.
The committee have had a number of incidents of unacceptable behaviour from swindonicefigureclub Parents. We will not accept any aggression, abuse, or bad language directed towards them while carrying out their voluntary services to the club. We must adhere to strict child protection guidelines to keep our members safe, which includes monitoring all access to the rink side during club time.
Any further instances will result in the immediate termination of membership.
The Coaches & Committee would like to remind all parents, for Safeguarding purposes, that they are NOT permitted rink-side. Only Coaches and Committee Members who have an Enhanced DBS issued by Swindon Ice Figure Club are permitted rink-side during Club and Club Events.
ALL members are requested to wear a club jacket at every club night, we do get 2nd hand jackets passed to us for sale, so check the second-hand rail.
All members who would like to purchase a new club jacket are advised to wait before making a purchase as we are considering a design change at the moment
Please can all members and Parents note that photography is a very sensitive subject in and around the ice rink and we would like to bring to everyone’s attention the policy that we have within the club.
Still photography and videoing of your own child is acceptable for your own use and for the purpose of ice skating coaching, however any photographing or videoing of any other individual member is prohibited and we would ask that if you have any media that fall into this category that it be deleted or destroyed immediately.
INFORMATION ON MOVING GROUPS
Moving groups and how this is graded is such a controversial subject, so please take notice of some pointers below:
Just because a skater can perform certain elements, it does not mean that they are ready to be moved into a new group. There are many other things that are taken into consideration, these include (but are not exclusive to):
- Age of the skater;
- How tall they are;
- How robust they are;
- How good their listening and understanding skills are;
- Can they perform moves requested by name rather than following others;
- How fast can they safely skate;
- How often do they practice; and
- How committed are they to skating.
All these are very important as skating is a dangerous sport and if a skater is moved and they don’t tick the boxes mentioned above we could be putting them in danger of injury from other skaters and this could also destroy their confidence.
Please also be aware that as you know children grow fast and so they may need to relearn moves following a growth spurt as their balance can alter greatly, so it is quite possible that a member could be moved back a group as well as forward at certain times.
All this will be taken into consideration by the coaches in order to keep everyone safe on the ice, so if you see another member being moved and you think your child is a better skater, please remember it’s not purely skating ability that has to be looked at.
Coaches will always be happy to advise you on things your child needs to work on and this could be any of the above.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you no longer require a place in club.
Ice skating like most sports can be dangerous. Swindon Ice Figure Club endeavour to minimise accidents and injuries by employing fully qualified professional coaches. However, we accept no responsibility for any accidents occurring during Club sessions.
We recommend that parents/guardians of skaters remain in the building and in the unlikely event of an accident can be easily contacted. It is imperative that Emergency Contact details are complete on the Membership form, and should any contact details change, that Club is notified of any changes as soon as possible.
At the start of every session the coaches will put all the skaters through a warm up period, which is very important.
If a member arrives more than 10 minutes late for their session and has not completed the warm-up then the club accepts no responsibility for that skater during that session. The register will be marked that they were late and repeated lateness will prompt their membership being reviewed.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING PATCH (TRAINING) SESSIONS
Please could EVERYONE take notice of the following:
Booking and paying for patch is your ticket to prove that you are entitled to practice on the ice and also that you are covered by insurance should you have an accident
We've probably all forgotten at times but it is very important, it also ensures that for health & safety the number do not exceed its capacity and allows you room to skate as safely as possible.
Training Ice (Patch) Bookings can be made online here.
GLL Better Training Ice Booking
What you MUST remember
- You must book a Training Ice (patch) session even if you have a patch passport
- You must book a Training Ice session to cover your lesson
- Training Ice is for practice and lessons only
- Training Ice is restricted to skaters who have completed a minimum of UK Skate Level 5
- You must abide by the Patch Etiquette (This can be found to the right of this page or at the rink entrance)
SKATING IS A DANGEROUS SPORT
You must be very aware of skaters around you. Priority on ice is as follows: -
- Coached lesson, with music, practicing programme;
- Coached lesson;
- Practicing programme to music, non-coached (having waited their turn for their music).
If you have booked Training Ice sessions in advance you must still obtain your ticket or scan your Patch Passport at Reception (only exception is early morning sessions).
Please also note that the 3.45 until 4.45pm session on a Thursday IS NOT A CLUB SESSION so you must book and pay for this Training Ice as you would any other and abide by the rules or you may be asked to leave the Ice.
All of the above will apply regardless of how long you are on the patch session, so even if its a few minutes the full session MUST be booked.
